I was told several years ago that the going rate is $.25 a yard for labor (this doesn't take into account someone's speed, but even so I'll go with that). 600 yards for the scarf; total cost $210.00. I told my friend she can't afford me, and I will gift her the scarf instead! I agree; you really can't make money at this unless you have a high-end clientele on hand.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1357850714808838122.post-2481561930669646282017-08-05T11:56:37.047+01:002017-08-05T11:56:37.047+01:00Hedda says,

Time was not costed.I thought at the time that I would have been better off to save all the work and just put the price of the materials away in a piggy bank. I would have done much better. People expect these things to be really cheap to buy even if they are already half the cost of similar items in retail shops.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1357850714808838122.post-18666207280734350622015-01-08T13:42:56.705+00:002015-01-08T13:42:56.705+00:00I was thinking about this recently because I am kn...I was thinking about this recently because I am knitting a baby blanket for someone for $60. I chose an amount that would let me know that my time is valued, the yarn cost was $15. I look at it as a combination of enjoying making something while getting enough money in return to add to my own yarn stash. I agree there really is no profit in hand-knitted items.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1357850714808838122.post-69729431737687560362014-03-19T16:56:56.478+00:002014-03-19T16:56:56.478+00:00Your outcome made me snort! Why do we do this. Honestly, I think I'll just give it away!EllieMaehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10777138650457247498noreply@blogger.com
